Stained concrete affords a wide array of colors and finishes for every architectural style. From modern, industrial, elegant or rustic, concrete staining is the perfect choice. Stained concrete flooring is a uniquely versatile medium where an infinite number of color and finishes can be applied. The ability to achieve a range of styles from elegant to rustic, modern to industrial is what keeps concrete at the forefront of architecture. Concrete can only be transformed by true professionals with the experience to achieve a beauty rivaled only by nature.

Stained concrete is a process by the surface of a concrete is colored by a chemical reaction or acid stains. Acid staining concrete is best for new construction floors or concrete that has not been contaminated. Because it relies on a chemical reactions, acid stained concrete is the most precarious and variegated or marbled way to stain your concrete. Reactive stain is also the most permanent or durable stain because it is a chemical reaction, it does not rely on pigments that break down over time when exposed to UV sunlight. Stained concrete floors are often scored with bordered or tile patterns. These scored lines can additionally be grouted. Once stained we will seal the floor with either a sealer and floor finish or for a matte finish we will paste wax and buff the floors. Stained concrete is an invaluable yet affordable way to put that wow factor in your project.

The easiest and most cost effective way to protect your concrete investment is by treating the material with a high quality concrete sealer. While they have been around for a while, concrete sealers are fast becoming more and more popular as chemical formulas improve with recent technological advancements. The right choice in a concrete sealer, as well as proper application and care, can preserve the strength and efficacy of your concrete surfaces for as long as you would ever need them.

Wood Stains and Paint Stains

Wood stains allow for the grain patterns on the wooden surface to be visible and enhanced on application. They fill in the pores and grooves on the wood thereby taking in the shape of the stained material. Since stains make the grains (and also the scratches) visible, it is necessary to sand the wooden surface to ensure there is absolutely no scratch / blemish on it. Stains may be directly applied on the wooden surface using a sponge or a clean rag cloth. However, as in the case of paints, the wood may not absorb the stain equally along its entire surface and hence the use of sealers is recommended before the application of stain. Sealers form an invisible film on the wood thereby allowing for equal absorption of stain. Stains have a quick drying time, somewhere between 10 to 30 minutes.

Solid color stain looks like paint, but soaks into wood instead of sitting on top of it. As it ages, stain breaks down by fading rather than peeling. Older layers of solid color stain tend to look better than paint does over time. Talk to our residential painting experts at Rx Painting Inc about your options and discover if solid color stain is the right option for you!

Solid stain provides a flat finish, which showcases wood grain. If there are a number of imperfections in the wood, the stain would highlight those as well. Though it doesn’t have quite the same longevity as paint, solid color stain is much easier to prepare and apply. Our contractors won’t be required to scrape and prime, as would be necessary with painting.

Benefits of Solid Color Stain

One of the benefits of using a solid color stain is that you often have as many options as you would with a traditional paint color. A solid stain can be used on new or previously painted wood since a solid color will cover the previous color completely.

When choosing a solid color stain, keep the following in mind:

  • Rx Painting Inc uses only premium paint products.

  • Test the colors of stain like you would paint and check it out at different times of the day, including night—just turn the porch light on!

  • To figure out which color, identify the boldest feature of your home’s exterior that will not be changing. Pick a color that’s opposite of that dominating feature on a color wheel, and you will have a complementary color scheme.
